The No-Excuses Boy

Unlike me, Filipe's a professional illustrator, a bloody good one at that. A few months ago, he showed me my favorite Bukowski poem. Filipe lives by it... and so should we.
''Once again
I hear of somebody who is going to
settle down and
do their work,
painting or writing or whatever,
as soon as they get a better light
installed,
or as soon as they move to a new
city,
or as soon as they come back from the trip they
have been planning,
or as soon as…
It’s simple; they just don’t want
to do it,
or they can’t do it,
otherwise they’d feel a burning
itch from hell
they could not ignore
and “soon”
would turn quickly into
“now.”''
 - 'Excuses' by Charles Bukowski

Burn baby, burn!

  3. Yeah, do what you are passionate about without excuses! Without sitting in another job hating it all your life and thinking of what you could have done with your talent.
That´s the way everybody should go in life to be satisfied and happy. Even if it means to got through hard times to achieve your goal!

  5. Nietzsche + Melissa - thanks a lot

Kat - you're absolutely right. In Bukowski's case, he actually worked in a shit job, but he still had the energy to come home from work and do what he loved. i think he was already in his 50's when he finally got some recognition. a true example of a great man.

Fainting - Yes, the boy is burning with the itch from hell that makes us do the work we love, burning away all the excuses :)
