The Winter Victim

The church tells us that Hell is warm... Ask any old person what they think of the bloody cold, and that perspective on Hell might change a bit. When winter comes, it stalks the elderly like a killer waiting for that unsuspecting prey.
I remember Mr. Rubinstein from childhood. He lived in the same building my grandparents did and every Sunday, when I went to visit them, he would lend me his newspaper so I could read the funnies. He also did this magic trick where he made a coin disappear. Even though it was an easy trick, the five year old me, thought it was pretty great. He was a sweet old dude, always quick with a smile or a joke. Sadly, years ago, a winter took his life. The poor guy was struck with pneumonia. Sometimes, going outside without a jacket is all it takes. If anything, Hell is freezing cold.

  3. I'm far from old, but ever since I broke my leg, it hurts twice as bad in the cold.

  5. There are people coming in your life you'll always remember. The way he left was very unnecessary and sad...

I like your style of writing, Gabriel. Its very thoughtful and to compare the winterly cold weather with hell... I just like that very much. Kinda poetic again :-)
