People scream to the top of their lungs how much they fucking love music. But the majority doesn't really love music, they only like whatever trendy
piece of crap is being coughed out by the celebrity music industry. They have
no notion or curiosity for the cultural and historical significance a song might hold, they ignore anything that is older than their last trip to the
dentist, and they disrespect the art by using it like cheap decorative wall
paper.
Allegra is different. Whenever she's in the mood for some music she goes to her special room, she lies on a blanket and she listens…
No distractions. No bullshit. Black Metal, Synthpop, Vocal Jazz, Punk Rock, Baroque, Ska, whatever the genre might be... The music fills the room and Allegra drowns in it. That’s true love. I wish I was more like her.

ReplyDeleteI love music too. I don't do much research, but I certainly avoid the junk the industry tries to feed us. She looks very serene.
ReplyDeleteBeing a classical and new age pianist, music has a special place in my heart. That being said, the only times I have listened to the radio for years now is when I'm with someone else that is playing one. I hate the direction music has gone over the years. Don't get me wrong, there are songs from various genres that I do like, but I'm really, really picky.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - i tend to always do some reading when i'm introduced to a new genre, but there's so much more i could do. and i also listen to music while i draw, a bit like wall paper :(
ReplyDeleteDavid - classical and new age pianist? very cool man. do you play anywhere?
there's still good music being made around the world, but most of it is just recycled junk.
Haha! I play wherever I can. My bed is a good place, here is a photo of Stormy, my RPG piano:

The song on the stand is from Final Fantasy 10-2 - Memories Of Light And Waves, one of my all time favorite new age pieces - I almost have it memorized now, here's a link so you can hear it:

It gives me goosebumps every time I play it, one of those where I have to fight to keep my emotions in check.
you'd think she'd have a circular bed.
ReplyDelete@David, that is one of my favourite songs of all times. It never fails to put me in a calm mood. I used to be able to play that on guitar :)
ReplyDeleteMusic is amazing, there's something for every mood and sometimes much better than any medicine.
I steer away from the over commercial stuff, though there's sometimes a song or two I'll like.
I prefer my music with a backstory, like Coheed & Cambria's.
Great drawing :)
David - that's some really beautiful equipment. i've always wanted to learn to play and own a piano.
ReplyDeleteaww, thought i was gonna see a video of you jamming out. yeah, that's one amazing song.
Jorg - haha! nah, circular beds are a nightmare to make.
Laury - i agree with you. The Pogues, for example, lift up my mood better than any pharmaceutical and i enjoy conceptual albums like those of Coheed and Cambria, as well.
so looking at some of your images, the color blue signifies motion?
ReplyDeleteI am like this! That's a great drawing you really captured the emotions of how it feels like when drowning yourself in good music. :)
ReplyDeleteTRGB - in this case, it partly does, but i also use it to express the focal point of a post or to add emotion and effect.
ReplyDeleteChilla - thanks for pointing that out. glad you identify with the drawing.
I agree with you. Most people listen to certain kinds of music just to fit in. It's stupid and you should listen to what you like.
ReplyDeleteYou speak true words! But this is the eternal difference between mainstream and underground. The best thing is not to care about mainstream. Today in the age of internet it is so much easier to find good music than everytime before (hard to write things like this in English for me, I hope you´ll understand, what I try to say). However: Rock´n´Roll & Cheers again! ;o)
ReplyDeleteL&A - true. it's amazing how many people get sucked in to the illusion of popularity when the real magic is found far from it.
ReplyDeleteOctapolis - you're absolutely right, the internet had made the search much easier and it has decentralized music as well. it used to be all about the music that came from the US and the UK, but now it's so much easier for bands from around the world to be heard. since you are a musician, you know the beauty of music better than most. (your english is fine)
Keep on rocking!
I always have discussions with my boyfriend about the radio and music. I hate the mainstream on the radio repeating every damn song which isin the charts over and over again like there is no other music! And people always seem to like this overly repeated shit and only that! I asked enough people about their taste in music and most said " what is in the charts". They are totally dominated and dictated what to hear and they don't seem to notice it...My boyfriend on the other side likes to hear radio and the charts but is open for other things, too. His english isn't very good and he often doesn't understand the lyrics. When I translate it he often says " Don't! I won't you to ruin the song for me, because I love the sound of it. Once I know the shit the artist sings I can't forget it anymore! " That's an opinion I respect but it wouldn't work for me because lyrics are very important I think. I translated this awkward "blow my whistle, baby, whistle, baby" ( I don't know who sang this but you know what I mean) song for him and he can't stand it anymore now lol.
ReplyDeleteFor me music generates dreams and feelings. By listening to great music I often had ideas for comics, stories or paintings because some lyrics make me see pictures in my mind .
Beautiful post! Music is my life and life's too short to listen to bad music. I wish I had a room like this one. :)
ReplyDeleteKat - i understand your bf because i too like some of the music on the radio, i mean, the design those tunes to be appealing. it's like a guilty pleasure, so i only listen to them when i'm driving and since the lyrics are so hideous i just try to ignore them.
ReplyDeleteit's nice that music inspires you in such a way.
Riotbreather - thanks. ha! that's very true.
I don't agree. IMO music should make me feel good and I get that from the more popular music. The lyrics might not be the smartest, but the sound and the feeling make up for it. And when some song fades away, I start to enjoy something new and fresh. I love music, but I don't think you have to do all those things like your friend does.
ReplyDeleteyou're entitled to your own opinion obviously, but music is art, its objective isn't to merely make you feel good. there's originality to consider. also, music should be intemporal, like all good things are. if there's no effort in understanding music, then that's not true love, that's more of a summer fling ;)
ReplyDeleteLol! You're probably right about the summer fling thing.
ReplyDeleteAh yes! Where would the human race be was it not with music? From the old tribal tunes - though, admittedly mostly rhythm - combined with the sexual act of dance to the modern appreciation of these sound waves as means of expressing emotion. Often in its truest form too.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness we still have people like Allegra.
Melissa - :)
ReplyDeleteSikzak - thank goodness, indeed. i like how you expressed that. she's the kind of person who makes us realize the beauty in things. even though it's usually fun, we can't always be cynical bastards.
I too wish if,I was more like her...
ReplyDeleteit's really a great way to be.
