The Cyberspace Buddha

SIDD17 was the nickname of a blogger I once followed. He blogged about post-human themes, futuristic technology, and occasionally, spiritual enlightenment. Disgusted by the physical requirements of our 'meat-ware' and unconvinced of the dystopian societies predicted by science-fiction, he believed that humanity would soon abandon the physical plane and ascend to a higher level of consciousness, one intricately connected to machines. We would fuse our minds in cyberspace and share all the knowledge of the universe. When that day came, most of the world's greediness and subsequent problems would come to a crashing halt. Then, a shiny new era of peace would reign.
He closed his blog a couple of years ago without any indication as to why. He probably grew tired of these ideas or maybe, he somehow ascended... If only technology developed faster.

  1. Maybe he just changed platforms. The internet has changed so much in the last 2 years.
The image of him dissolving into the machines is excellent. Great work!

  2. It would have been a beautiful blog. It reminded me of my childhood cartoons where something similar happens.

  3. That sounds like Neuromancer. I doubt it would be the end of problems. There is always a way to make money.

  4. Nietzsche - yeah, it has changed quite a bit with tumblr and facebook and whatnot. and it keeps changing, faster and faster. some things do end, though.

BASE - it really was a great blog and i'm sure it would even be greater today. it was simple in style, but with some inspiring posts. maybe you could share the name of some of those cartoons you watched?

Jorg - the illustration is actually based on cyber-punk culture. the theme only steps away from it on the dystopian society bit. i agree with you, even if we find alternatives for energy and food, there'll always be something to feed greed and desire. not everyone thinks this way, though. there are crazy optimists everywhere and sometimes they even manage to convince me things can get better.

Mrs. Katie - sure, no problem. being a freak myself i try to never judge anyone. glad that you like my stuff. i really love yours, too, as you should already know.

  7. That reminds me of that Kansas song Portrait:

"He had a different idea A glimpse of the master plan He could see into the future A true visionary man

But there's something he never told us It died when he went away If only he could have been with us No telling what he might say

But he knew more than me or you No one could see his view Oh, where was he going to."

  9. I knew one guy who always talked about being immortal ... He wanted to live on and on because he was highly convinced by the theory that humanity will be able to produce artifical organs based on fetal stem cells. If one organ looses its function they would replace it, he said. And if he gets old from the outside they will change it, too. He was such a psycho :-D
But anyway I believe that humanity will discover great things in the future. The thing with the God Particle for example... Maybe a Replicator like in Star Trek is no longer unreachable? Haha it is fun to be all bonkers about SciFi stuff :-)

  10. It's interesting to recognize just how much of the road Science Fiction has paved for Science. I was stoked when I read that teleportation is already being done. A Replicator would be a nice Christmas present.

  11. By chance, have you ever read any books by Ray Kurzweil? I have one of them lying around somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it...

Anyway, IIRC the general idea is that eventually, technology will become so advanced that it'll go beyond just processing power and storage capacity. Eventually, we will become part machine, and spark a new era of evolution. The stuff of science fiction (and speculative fiction) for sure...or is it?!

That aside, I'm glad I stumbled upon your blog. Certainly some interesting ideas and art -- heck, I'm already getting some inspiration for my writing.

It will likely involve cyber-ninjas. I promised my brother I'd write something about cyber-ninjas someday.

  12. i'm not an expert, but i've been following the post-human movement for a couple of years now and i'm no stranger to Kurzweil's thoughts on the singularity. i think some concepts are based a little too much on wishful thinking, but if we don't fuck the world first, i'm pretty sure we'll get to witness some very interesting developments. thanks for joining.
    cyber-ninjas will definitely kick ass.
