When Tom was a
teenager he bought a video camera hoping to somehow embarrass his dad into not beating the shit out of him every night. Since then, Tom began filming everything. Doing this, he created a
barrier between him and the rest of the world. It gave him a certain sense of protection. He left home at an early age, got a girlfriend and even had a kid. This is all fine, but he forgot to put the fucking camera down. Now that he's older, Tom doesn't realize that his obsession is fucking everything he lays his eyes
upon and is editing out parts of himself that he’ll have a hard time getting back. Sometimes the line between being strong and being an asshole can be pretty thin.
I like that drawing. Man with a camera for an eye is the most ideal cyborg. Have you ever seen "Man with a Movie Camera", by Vertov? At the end he superimposes an eye on a camera, and predicts that's where the future is heading. I hope so!
ReplyDelete"Sometimes the line between being strong and being an asshole can be pretty thin". I simply like this very much. And in the illustration, video cameras instead of an eye and the editing works on his body are really impressive...
ReplyDeleteSo let me verbalize it, his obsession makes him lose his heart, his guts, and his balls...? This is pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteJorg - thanks. i haven't seen it yet, but it's been on my list. the idea of an eye camera has always seemed obvious to me ever since i started seeing cyborgs in childhood cartoons. i actually drew a sketch many years ago and when i met 'Tom' it just seemed like a good idea to remake the sketch and add the 'editing'. i like that futuristic idea too, but we risk allowing the camera 'narrow' our vision.
ReplyDeleteBasil - thanks. it's a very easy line to cross if we're not careful.
Nietzsche - thanks. yes, you're correct. from what i understood, he's becoming the very monster he initially needed to find an escape from.
This is very good illustration! I feel sorry for the little girl :((
ReplyDeleteHe sorta reminds me of the Camera Head cenobite from Hellraiser 3!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I want write the same like Kaijinu :DDD
ReplyDeleteExtra too late x)
Cool idea like always ^-^
What is this in the middle downside of the painting? i hope a teddy or something like this, but it looks... no. ;o)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the "TV Cameraman" Cenobite from Hellraiser III
ReplyDeleteRiotbreather - thanks. i feel sorry for her too.
ReplyDeleteKaijinu - coincidentally that's probably the only big horror saga i've never seen. its not an original idea; along with the prosthetic arm, the camera instead of an eye is one of the earliest thoughts about cybernetics. however, this is only a detail in a different theme.
Judka - thanks. just googled this Tv Cameraman. he doesn't look very friendly either.
Octapolis - yeah, its a teddy bear. anything else, especially that, would be too wrong.
Dr. Theda - you're not alone on that. i really have to watch these Hellraiser movies.
Blind director is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThis mad Director make me think tetsuo man of steel and cronenberg stuff.
ReplyDeleteJohn - thanks. his persona may be awesome, but 'Tom' is becoming a real scumbag.
ReplyDeleteMassimo - i love that stuff.
