One summer, Wilhelmina met a guy at a Renaissance Fair. They both really enjoyed dressing up and pretending they lived in that era, occasionally speaking in a Shakespearean way. They married the following year and were very much in love. A couple of years ago he was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Weeks later,
Wilhelmina would put on the dress her husband made for her and then go to his
grave to cut herself. Not too deep, just enough to feel his look upon her. She knew this wasn't a healthy thing to do, but she said it
made her feel closer to him. She eventually stopped. We all have our different coping mechanisms.
That is a Sad tale... The loss of that which we love..is one of the worst pains that we ever endure...
ReplyDeleteReally sad :( but really beautiful... ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is too sad that he died... Most people cut themselves when they have psychological problems and are so numb inside that they can only feel something by hurting themselves. Must be similar here.
ReplyDeleteBy the way... I love renaissance and dressing up, too. It is great that she had the pleasure to find someone that shares her hobby to be in love with.
I had a freind who also used to cut herself whenever she got into a fight with her parents. She said that the physical pain was much easier to bear than the psychological one, it distracted her from the hole she felt inside.
ReplyDeleteDespite the sadness, there is something really ispiring in this illustration.
Dr. Theda - indeed. it's probably the greatest tragedy someone faces.
ReplyDeleteNuki - i think the same about this story.
Kat - you're probably right. i doubt i'll ever dress up myself, but i do have a certain fascination in seeing fictional or historical characters 'brought to life'. there's also the sexyness i can't quite explain :)
Nietzsche - cutting can be an escape from the emotional pain, but i think there are better alternatives.
i'm sort of on vacation so the only internet i've got is from coming to the public library. i have my 'kidz' for september set on automatic, so no problem there. however, i apologize for not answering your comments quicker and not visiting your blogs with the same usual frequency. hope you're all well.
ReplyDeletecheers!
Hope you are enjoying your vacation time.
ReplyDeleteEven though this is a sad post, it inspires much beauty. I feel really sorry for the girl, I can't imagine the pain of losing a husband.
Have a great vacation, man!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - thanks. it must indeed be devastating.
ReplyDeleteJay - thank you.
She must have thought that his spirit would reveal itself to her if she did something that was bad to herself, spiritual blackmail? Dunno.
ReplyDeleteI've been relegated to the library a lot lately too as my home life is still up in the air as to where I am moving too. One good thing about my library is they have smoking fast internet believe it or not. I run torrents for movies and shows - nice and anon. :)
'spiritual blackmail', i like that.
ReplyDeletelucky you. i'm lucky if i manage to open up blogger without it crashing.
Poor girl. Coping with the loss of a loved one is never easy. I think this image captures the story very well.
ReplyDeleteI would've liked it more if it was a Victorian widow instead :p I just like the clothes of that era much more.
thanks. i actually have some Victorian posts for the future.
ReplyDeleteLove love the female character! <3
ReplyDeletethanks.
