The Infinite Drunk

At Jack's last check-up, the doctor told him that his liver looked like something a hideous wart-riddled ogre would put in its soup. Jack smiled with pride. Jack is 28 and writes gut-wrenching poetry. He quit smoking two years ago, but he'll never quit drinking. Jack thinks of alcohol as a friend. "It may make me puke my guts out on occasion, but it also helps me keep my head above this horribly boring toilet world." No one can get in between such a strong friendship and nothing will ever make Jack change his mind. As long as he wants, he'll always have a drink in his hand. Sometimes, someone will ask Jack how long he plans on continuing this damaging relationship. His answer is always the same:
"To infinity... and beyond!"

Some will say that a long life is the best you can wish for a person. I just want him to be happy.

  1. Happiness counts for a Lot....
I am still trying to quit smoking myself... Not a lot of success...
I wish your friend the best... Liver health is very important (it filters out most of the toxins that come into our body) I helped a couple of young friends to stop drinking... And have lost a couple of loved ones to drinking ... There are worse habits...

I never saw the appeal of alcohol myself, but a lot of people do.

  4. Dr. Theda - there are certainly worse habits. domestic violence is but one. although many of these cases involve drinking, not all drinkers drop so low.
best of luck on quitting the coffin nails.

Octapolis - haha! actually, he prefers the Irish brands of poison :)

Laury - thanks. drinking certainly doesn't tempt everyone, but i can honestly say that my one night stands with drinking were always a lot of fun.

  5. I'm also more of a "one night stand" kind of girl when it comes to drinking, but I know a couple of guys like this and they're usually a lot of fun to hang out with.
    Very cool drawing!

  6. He writes poems? Artists are so drawn to alcohol ! There´s even a rumor that Van Gogh cut his ear not because he got tinnitus but for the reason he drank too much absynth! I think it could be right. Remnids me of shamans of some tribal cultures who still take drugs because they believe it opens their minds and brings them closer to their gods. So many artists/writers created fantastic things unde the influence of alcohol... I think it is ok to take some here and there for inspiration... as long as it doesn´t kill you or makes you addicted.

  7. Hello to All... Sitting here drinking Coffee... Think I will partake of something a bit stronger... even though it is cold outside ...I shall walk up town a purchase a few beers...
Drinking may not "solve"our problems... but it can put them on hold for the day...
We leave you with an old Irish saying... " you cannot Buy beer... You can only Rent it for a short while..."...lol

  8. Melissa - thanks. i've been thinking about the 'one night stand' analogy and it's not really accurate. its more like drinking and i are fuck buddies because there's always repetition even though i sometimes claim that 'i'll never drink again!' ;)

Kat - i think this guy would still drink even if he didn't write poetry. his drinking is more culturally/socially influenced than artistically. personally, alcohol has never inspired me to be creative, which makes me a bit sad.
lol i thought that Van Gogh story was true! tinnitus does make more sense even though i've seen a friend of mine lose his shit after downing a few cups of absinthe.

Dr. Theda - hello there :) drinking doesn't solve a thing, but occasionally, it can be fun if the mood is right.
leave it to the blessed Irish to come up with such words of wisdom. some days, i really wish i was born in Ireland.
